Pandemiversary Pandemicast - 2021 March Equinox Edition

We hope everyone is as well as possible. Rick and Maria sit down for a Pandemic 1 year anniversary debrief on the March 2021 Equinox to discuss the year's shenanigans while being mildly locked down. Everything from bidets to chipmunk's peeing and Qi Gong are on the table. If we haven't seen you in awhile, hopefully this will help expedite the conversation when we can see each other again.

Philly Marathon top 10 finish with Stephen Paddock

In the ascent from high school running to top 10 finish at Philadelphia Marathon Stephen Paddock shares with us the details behind his training and mindset. Stephen talks about working with a coach, to developing his own training, and his simple and intuitive approach to running that has been honed over time. This is a down-to earth discussion that gets into details on training regiment, but also light-hearted at the same time.

Mike Polidori "Bends the fence" from untrained 15Ks to Boston Marathon

This is the story of Mike Polidoris ascent from rolling out of bed untrained for the local 15K Boilermaker, to finding a taste for training and what he's capable of, and then unlocking potential with his runs at Boston and New York City Marathons. My favorite part of this discussion is how much Mike looks "outward" to his friends, family, community and training partners in a sport that is otherwise quite solo. Mike fully recognizes the role of these people in his life and how they contributed to his unfolding accomplishments. This was a conversation I have been waiting for and I hope you enjoy listening as much as we did recording.

Adirondacks: Northville to Lake Placid Trail Fasted Known Time Attempt

In this episode we sit down for the second time with Rob Richard and recap his attempt at completing a fastest known time (FKT) on July 5th, 2018 of the 138 mile Northville to Lake Placid trail in the Adirondacks of New York. Rob ended up making it 103 miles before calling it quits due to being too far off his target times. All in all this was an excellent attempt and Rob plans to return on 2019. Rob discusses his preparation, crew roles, general nutrition, and overall strategy. Rob also talks about how he embraces the "failure" as a learning opportunity to move forward.

For more background Rob, be sure to go back and check out our prior interview on the Rick Gloo Podcast.

Running NYs 46 High Peaks and 2017 Boston Marathon Experience with Stephen Paddock

In this episode I sit down with my good friend Stephen Paddock. While Stephen and I have a few years between us age-wise, it's been an honor to watch him grow from a high school runner into adult life. He ALWAYS grabs life by the face and dives in head first. Stephen breaks a lot of the millennial stereotypes and gives me hope for the future generations. As an example, he refused to get a smart phone until his mom made him get one before college. Additionally Stephen has done a lot of work for local charities and has been contributing back to his community since his mid-teens.

This is not just a discussion about running or a runner, this is a discussion with a person who life is dominated and guided by lessons learned while running. Stephen brings a lot of resilience to real life that has been earned when he is pushing the limits of his mind and body on the trail or road. I hope you enjoy this conversation and are as inspired as I am by Stephen's unfolding story.

We Finish our Prolon Fasting Mimicking Diet Week - Part II

This episode is the second part of Rick and Maria's week using the Prolon Fasting Mimicking Diet product. It covers the third to fifth day of "fasting" as well as the refeeding day and the seventh day where Rick and Maria run a 10K. Overall it was a good experience, but you will have to tune in to hear all the blow-by-blow emotions of eating very few calories for the first time in their life. Rick claimed he was going to eat cat food and a power outage also threatened his evening soup. Maria of course continues to beg to play the podcast outro music on her flute, does she get her wish? You will have to tune in to find out.

Maria and Rick fast...kinda of - Part 1

Maria and Rick decided to do the Prolon Fasting Mimicking diet (FMD) this week. Prolon is a plant-based calorie restricted 5 day meal package. It includes packaged meals that are consumed over the week with maximum calories at 1100 on day 1 and and the following four days at around 750 calories. It is backed by over 20 years of research and has undergone clinical trials (but not FDA approved).

Needless to say Maria and I are having some fun with it. Turns out we really like to eat and we are learning that quickly. We will be documenting our Prolon FMD experience this week. It will be published in multiple parts. We will wrap up the recordings after the transition day (day 6 with regular food) and then also include day 7 when we report how we feel for our first real run in a week.

This podcast has no affiliation with Prolon and the diet was purchased directly as off-the-shelf consumers.

RGP 02: 100 Milers with Rob Richard

received_10157140352924688.jpeg

In this episode we sit down and talk to Rob Richard. Rob grew up running and drifted away in his college years only to be reunited a little further into life. With the help of a few influential mentors Rob began to tackle longer ultramarathon distance events. In 2017 Rob completed two 100 mile events and the 60 mile Georgia Death Race. Rob talks about his growth as a runner, preparation for longer events, working through self-doubt, and what the future holds. I am honored to have Rob as a friend and appreciate everything he does for the community. It was great to capture this conversation and we wish Rob lots of luck and good vibes on all endeavours going forward.

Generally speaking, the show will highlight people and stories that have an inspiring quality. The areas of fitness, health, wellness, meditation, veggies, gardens, business, artists, entrepreneurs, etc. will be pursued. Have fun and enjoy!
